Thank you for taking the time to read last month’s newsletter. We are grateful for the lovely feedback we received.

As some of you may recall, in the last quarter of 2024, we hosted two free Director Awareness courses. We are pleased to announce that we will be running two more of these courses in March and April. The aim of the Directors Awareness course is to help attendees demonstrate their understanding of the moral, legal, and financial responsibilities of Directors and Senior Managers. The course lasts approximately 90 minutes, and there will be a quick Q&A session at the end. After completing the course, attendees will receive a certificate via email. If you are interested in attending our Director Awareness course, please send a quick email to training@iceriskmanagement.co.uk and we will add you to the mailing list of upcoming dates. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. We value your feedback and are always looking for ways to improve our services. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

What’s been in the News……Manufacturing Fatality

Ice Risk Management | Construction Health And Safety | Site Audits | Courses

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has concluded an investigation revealing shortcomings in Mifflin Construction Ltd’s safety protocols which led to the death of an employee who had been with the company for over 27 years. The HSE found that the company did not conduct comprehensive risk assessments, failing to adhere to industry-standard control measures. Additionally, they were found lacking in providing proper information, instruction, and training regarding lifting operations on the premises. Deficiencies were also identified in planning lifts and ensuring the presence of suitably qualified supervisors during these operations. The manufacturing firm, specialising in steel components for the construction industry, was fined £120,000 following a tragic incident in May 2019, that led to the loss of a long-serving employee’s life while operating machinery.

Risk Assessment serves as a fundamental managerial instrument for guaranteeing the well-being and safety of employees. It’s crucial to understand that these are not merely best practices but also a legal obligation for employers and self-employed individuals.

  • An accident is ‘an unplanned event that results in loss’
  • A hazard is ‘something that has the potential to cause harm’
  • A risk is ‘the likelihood and the severity of a negative occurrence (injury, ill-health, damage, loss) resulting from a hazard.
