World Day For Safety And Health At Work 28th April 2024
On April 28, the global community acknowledges World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The collective objective is to enhance workplace safety and health, emphasising the prevention of occupational injuries and fatal accidents. Cultivating a culture of safety in every workspace is imperative, as it significantly contributes to the reduction of accidents and incidents. We carry a shared responsibility to ensure workplace safety, aiming for a safer work environment for all.
It is gettting better – but we could do more – and it starts from the top. The HSE’s definition of Health and Safety Management “Preventing persons from being harmed at work or becoming ill by taking the right precautions and providing a satisfactory working environment”.
The focus of World Day for Safety and Health at Work on workers’ rights to a safe and healthy working environment amplifies the need for businesses to prioritise workplace safety and health culture. Businesses must take the correct steps to ensure the workplace, processes, and tasks are safe and feasible for employees. This should include regular risk assessments, training, employee discussions, and providing employees with the right tools to complete tasks safely.

The Silent Epidemic… did you know?
Construction workers face some of the highest suicide rates in the country, exceeding the national average by over three times. In the past year alone, 507 of these workers died by suicide, averaging two suicides per working day.
Alarmingly, these rates are rising, and construction workers are nearly four times more prone to suicide than individuals in other sectors. This increased prevalence of poor mental health in the construction industry has been termed a ‘silent epidemic’.
It’s crucial for employers and peers to be aware and assist where possible. Education and training can be instrumental in eradicating stigma. At ICE Risk Management, we felt it was essential to provide resources to help our clients identify and support those potentially dealing with mental health concerns.

Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to notice and support individuals who may be experiencing mental health issues or exhibiting the signs of substance use in a work environment. They are also taught how to connect those people with appropriate help from fellow employees, community resources or healthcare professionals.

Mental Health Awareness
This course explains the difference between mental health and mental illness. It covers the symptoms of a number of the most common mental illnesses so you will know what to look out for or what to expect if you are working with someone with one of these conditions. As well as providing some practical advice on how you can work effectively with those affected by these conditions.

Supervising Mental Health at Work
This course will look at supervising stress and mental health at work and show you how to create a good mental health culture in your workplace.
